Girls' Lunch Guidelines
Girls' Lunch is a monthly networking event with no dues (pay for your own lunch), no boards, no committees, no required referrals, and no mandatory attendance.
As the Girls' Lunch founder, I've been asked to provide guidelines. All are based on respect.
Respect our hostesses. The hostesses volunteer to find a venue, collect RSVPs and money, and preside over the lunch. Please respect them by RSVPing, canceling in a timely manner if necessary, and honoring your financial obligation if you're a no-show.
Respect the "no-shows will be billed" policy. Anyone who doesn't honor a hostess's bill prior to the next invitation being sent (usually 5-7 calendar days after a lunch) will be removed from the invitation list until she settles with the hostess.Walk-ins (those who attend but did not RSVP) will be charged an additional $5.
Respect other participants. Girls' Lunch is face-to-face networking, not "in your face." It is not appropriate to leave marketing materials on chairs or at place settings without prior approval of the hostess. (See below for the related Girls' Lunch Goodie Bags.)
Respect attendees' time. Keeping our presentations to 30 seconds allows everyone an equal opportunity to speak - as well as respects participants' time constraints.
Respect the gift. A gift is something with no strings attached. A gift is not a percent-off coupon or "free with other services" promotion. (There is a place for such a promotion. See below for the Girls' Lunch Goodie Bags.)
Respect the name. It's Girls' Lunch.
Guidelines for Girls' Lunch Promotional Gift
Just like everything else, this is voluntary. No one is required to participate.
One gift per promotion. To promote yourself, bring one gift. To promote a charity event, job fair, expo, pledge drive, etc., bring one gift. To promote both, bring two gifts. (Note: When we want to effectively communicate an idea, we do it without any other message. Therefore, if we're promoting more than one thing, it's best to promote the first and draw for the gift, then get back in line to promote the second and draw for the second gift. The separation will make each promotion stand out more.)
Many of us know what we want to say, we just don't realize that we run on and on (and I am also guilty of this and have been working hard to correct it). By practicing with a stopwatch in advance, we can keep the promotions to 30 seconds. Many hostesses are now using stopwatches to ensure compliance.
Gifts are limited only by our imaginations, and are generally in the $10-$20 range. Chocolate, pamper products, and wine are popular, as are gift certificates. Gifts that represent our businesses are memorable.
Gifts have no strings attached. Coupons, discounts and gift-with-purchase not appropriate for the promotional gift. However, they are appropriate for the Girls Lunch Goodie Bags ...
... Guidelines for Girls' Lunch Goodie Bags
Just like everything else, this is voluntary. No one is required to participate.
Each month, someone donates 80-100 bags. Anyone can add a promotional item to the bag. Attendees take a bag on their way out.
Respect the bag. If all we’re adding is literature, we’re not adding much. Attach a bite-size piece of
chocolate to it, or a coupon, or something!
Respect the promotional presentations. Those who would like to add something to the bag should make sure items are added before the promotional presentations begin.
If anyone would like to provide a bag with your logo on it for a lunch - you don't have to provide it for every lunch - let me know.
